The rainbow trout, (Oncorhynchus mykiss), is a game fish of the family Salmonidae native to cold-water lakes and streams in North America and Asia. They can remain in freshwater for the duration of their lives, or migrate to the ocean and only return to freshwater to spawn. These anadromous (sea-run) forms are called the steelhead trout.
